Does anyone know any good directories(free) which offer deeplinks?

I got rid of my deep link directory (which was the original deep link only directory) deeplylinked . Stuey now charges $10 submission, it has over 5000 pages listed so the links are worthwhile.
Is there any value in submitting your site to all of the directories even if they're free?
Can it do any damage?
What's the best approach/ strategy as far as directories are concerned.
Submit to my directory with just one line of text and you will get listed.
Submit and craftily try to sneak your URL in and you will get deleted.
Submit with a nice parrargraph of text about what you do, where you
operate, the area you provide the service etc. and I'll probably have a
quick look at your site before listing you.
Submit with a nice description, and if I like your site and feel it is useful
to my visitors and you might get a free special listing.
Thank me, after receiving an email confirming your listing, and you will
probably receive a special listing (I am thanked as little as 1:1000 listings)
Email me, asking a few questions, before listing and you will probably
get a special listing
Email me, asking a few questions, after listing and you will probably
get a special listing
Ring me with a few questions and you will probably get a free listing
Compliment me on my directory, let me know you are adding me to your
site, let me know you will reccommend me to others etc. and you will get
something even better than a special listing.
The point I am trying to make is that if you just treat it as an automated
service, your listing will be treated as an automated listing.
Remember there are people at the end of the automation, treat them right
and they will treat you right.
The way to approach it is this (the same way as I approach life). Everyone deserves respect until they show you otherwise. have the same respect for a brand new PR0 site that has very few listings (YET), as you would have for the mighty DMOZ, and you will not go far wrong.

Yes, submitting your site to directories can help increase your search engine rankings. Especially if your site is newly launched, directory submission is the most simple and the primary link building method to get backlinks which are important factors in increasing your site's page rank.
Your site won't hurt as long as you do not submit it to adult websites.
Just submit your site to quality directories in their proper category.
