Coming on leaps and bounds with my website. After its last crawl it has jumped all the way up to 63rd for 'office supplies' which is a competitive market. Only last most it was all the way back in the late 200's. Hopefully the progress can continue.
Most of this i think has been down to some heavy link building with free directories and some of my suppliers.
I'm now considering paying for some high PR listing and was wondering if there are any "must haves".
I've already paid to be listed in Yahoo! business directory & Best of the Web, Clush, Joe Ant and Scoot.co.uk.

Does this also apply to anchor text for backlinks?

looking at the SERP's I think it may not be a coincedence that the top ranked sites start "office supplies" apart from people like Staples who will get there ranking from there links and site size e.t.c.
dirjournal.com is quite a good one if you have deep pockets... i'd be very, very selective; although quantity does play a factor in your link building which in turn will affect your pagerank, you should be looking towards building quality links from good, quality, relational sources.
Content is King in my (and googles) opinion. You want to rank highly for office supplies? You will need to adjust your content and constantly monitor it. SO many SEO people - including my boss - reckon linking is still all the rage... Loads of relevant links = good pagrank = high rankings.
Concentrate on your content before links and the rest will happen.
