Default trying to improve my ranking

I am trying to improve my rankings and I'm comparing the top 4 sites on Google for the term "private Investigator" not including the wiki page and learndirect.

To that end I have done some small amounts of research into title relevancy, description relevancy all done through domain tools.

My title relevancy score is 72%
Description: 90%
SE) Score: 93%

Can anyone help me out as i want to increase these scores and make any other onpage changes that might need doing?

You're barking up the wrong tree IMO.

What you need to be doing is looking at the backlinks of your competition, looking at the page saturation of your competition, looking at the site structures of your competition etc. And looking for insights.

SEO by numbers doesn't work, and never really has in my book

What do you think?

I believe OWG is talking about how many pages your competitor has in the engines.

OWG - some interesting and useful thoughts. When you say "site structure" in regard to SEO, what do you mean?

Do you mean by using the site command?

Saturation = what KP said

Site structure. In its simples form when building a site think of how you build a house of cards (HOC) (bad analogy i know descriptively but structure wise it is right)

say there was a house of cards, 3 on the bottom then 4, 3, 2 with 1 little triangle on top. if you asked people to point at the most important triangle, they point to the top!

Now hold that thought, build another identical HOC next to it. now we have TWO equally important triangles, 1 at the top of each HOC.

NOW imagine you placed a piece of rigid card between them, and built another HOC between the two. So now you have 2 HOC's supporting the one above it. The whole thing is a triangle. NOW when asked to point to the most important one, you ignore the two you previously pointed to, and immediately point to the one at the very top.

Same with well structured sites. Each HOC represents a folder, each of those card that built the HOC represent web pages on the topic. The page at the top of EACh HOC is the most important for that topic (index page where all the other pages in the folder link to.) pages within the folder will cross link with each other, but rarely with pages in other folders, but ALWAYS to their index page, and the main site index page making IT the most important on the theme of the site.

This is what creates the correct hierarchy within the site, it is how link juice flows within the site, and it helps to sub niche areas within your site. AND, once you become an authority for a phrase, it will be the main index pages that become your sitelinks on a Google SERP (Sitelinks being where you see a site and it shows lots of pages within the site below it).

OWG - when you have a link like the one at the top of that link you sent, how do you get the sublinks that you see? is that what you meant?

I see it every now and then with the top spot where it has links to the contact page etc underneath

I have that but I'm not at the top. I really don't understand why I'm not doing any better.
