I'm rewriting tags, keywords, content etc for the boxby site. And i'm finding that I have a lot less keywords. The keywords i'm using are the most relevant to the site, and the ones with the most traffic on.
So, instead of having perhaps 30 or 40 keywords, (or some of my old pages even had over 100 keywords in the keywords tags), i've instead maybe got around a dozen, sometimes less. But these keywords are consistently used through the page.
Hi - generally if a website has a strict set of keyword i.e. ten which are relevant to the product/service offered and the the copy tends to be written around these keywords, it will actually have a positive affect on your keyword density which search engines like.
It's all about relevance - the search engines need to know your site is relevant to the search being perfomed.
Remember to check your keyword density - if you over-use a word, you may be seen as spam.
Just reading through this thread and decided to "hijack" it!
What do you mean by "Remember to check your keyword density - if you over-use a word, you may be seen as spam." ?
How do you check it, and against what?

You can check your density by going to a free tool such as www.keyworddensity.com (lots of different free tools available).
Enter your website page URL and it should come up with a list of words found on your site and a density % for each. Ideally you're looking for your keywords to come up with a density of 4-8%.
Generally density over 8% is not seen as favourable by the search engines and they might think you're spam. This means you've used the word too many times.
One word of advice though - make sure your webpages read ok from a visitor point of view - after all there's no point cramming them with keywords and making them ultra SEO friendly but they're complete rubbish to someone visiting your site.

Am i shooting myself in the foot here?
Blogs can be great places to go attacking the long tail keywords, attacking each phrase with a new post....and if you make the content information not spam, you can also social bookmark the posts...funnel the long tail keywords, into the core shorter keyword expressionss, on your site...

The new site is all about funnelling - funnelling people off to the bit of the site that's relevant for them. I have two completely seperate groups coming to the site - customers and couriers, so one blog is all about couriers, courier issues, market conditions etc etc etc. and the other is all about customers, packaging tips, advice etc etc etc.
I thought even if i used one blog with different pages/categories etc it's going to end up a bit blurred and muddled.
