Default Domain Name Importance?

How important is your domain name, our domain name dragonfly-services doesn't really say alot about us,

would it be worth me rating 2/3 that are related to what we do i.e. dragonfly-sameday dragonfly-couriers etc?

There is a line of thought that Google likes relevant domain names - Alvin will be on the case shortly no doubt, to tell you his findings on that one.

Certainly a domain name that says more about your business will help you though, from both a search engine and consumer point of view. "Services" is in my mind far to generic, not totally convinced "sameday" does you many favours either as could apply to many industries ie sameday printing. Although perhaps dragonfly-sameday-couriers could work for you.

PS. Hello, don't think I have spoken to you before.

Okay so I can probably improve my domain name, but is it worth registering more than one for the same site?

Domain names have a lot of importance. Personally I suspect that in the next few months Google will realise that they've been overrating this so I wouldn't be hugely surprised if their effect is lessenned a bit sooner or later.

One thing to remember with keyword rich domains. The anchor text for a simple URL based link to the domain.......

From the perspective of new customers, you want to make things as simple as possible for them to find you
Because of this I would suggest dropping the hyphens and forget about trying to include keywords in your domain

This correct is word of mouth is a key marketing tool "Our website is wibble hyphen wobble hyphen something do co dot uk" But if your primary source of traffic is search traffic it's not really an issue. IMHO

Interesting perspective ,maybe you would like to explain the logic behind this reasoning.?

I can understand that to a certain extent BUT if you was smart you'd get both the hyphenated version and the non-hyphenated version would you not?

I mean, personally I'd use "Quad-Bikes.com" as my base URL and "QuadBikes.com" redirected.

I guess it's all down to what kind of advertising you plan on doing.

Sure, keyword-keyword-keyword.com would be a bitch to remember if given quickly and probably wouldn't pass the "Radio" test but that's not to say they are useless.

They are good for pure optimisation.

If you can get both then do so because if not you'll get a sneaky bugger like Alvin grab the hyphenated version and before you know it you won't be number one for long.

KP
P.S
Before anyone asks, no, I don't have S-E-O.com
