Google has finally seen fit to give my site some sitelinks, which given I redid the flipping whole thing from scratch 2 months ago, is a nice feather in my cap. Woopiedoopiedoo. This is what webmaster central is telling me:
I like to think that I know my SEO, but what's flummoxing me is this, the company name is telefonix and when I've had sitelinks on other sites before you really only see these things on that sort of specific a search. But when I search for telefonix they aint showing.
Boohoo. - I guess they were only 'declared' a few days ago and should I be more patient; am I losing the plot and doing the wrong search or... Anyone?
Sitelinks are phrase relative. To have sitelinks, you must hold the relative phrase head and shoulders above your nearest rival. The annying thing about sitelinks is that they don't tell you what phrase they are showing for. I have tracked down 6 phrases that my sitelinks show for.
Update if anyone was interested in this - I think this was just a case of be being impatient. They're finally showing for the search that I thought they would - I guess there's just a bit of a delay between GWT and live on this.
My take on sitelinks is that they are only really usefull if they come up for a popular search term.
And in order to achieve this one has to be No1 on google for that particular term,as well as having a highly rated site.
Our volkswagen site although having high rankings for most stuff VW,will only show its site links for a few popular search terms.
And does not show its sitelinks for the most traffic rich term which is "vw parts".?
My point being how usefull are sitelinks in driving traffic ,or what use are they at all to your average site unless they show for a popular search term.?
