I think i have this problem, couriers, parcels and deliveries seem, to me, to be quite competitive. In the new design going live today (fingerscrossed) i have tried to include more content, more pages etc.
However, I am struggling to think of how i can include more pages which actually contain relevant and unique content, i definitely have no idea how i could build 200-2000 pages into my site. For webshops etc I can see how this can be done - but for sites like mine, i'm struggling - any advice??
I've got 16,000 pages all of which have some inbound links, and approx 20 internal links to them. Googlebot is however still chewing through this lot. As mentioned earlier even the closest of these pages is between 50% and 75% duplicate, some of the far flung ones are as little as 20% duplicate howver the main body text doesn't change much at all.
I can prove they were being index by google, however I have since improved the list, and my keywords, and I'm waiting for google to digest the changes.
It is possible to have plenty of pages, but you need to think laterally about how you do it. I'm seriously think of reducing the body text on these landing pages to reduce the duplicate content to a slightly safer level though.
One of my sites currently has 27000 pages indexed and 160 million that google is working through. (According to google site map page)
Whether any of this makes any difference at all to my rankings is another matter completely.
I was referring to the 1700 page result. What the meanig of the /* you put on the end of the site when you do it Alvin, I can't find any reference to it in google help??
What is the effect of the pages been supplementary??
Just being reading up on supplementry pages, and it could be because they aren't linked from the main page?? Well they were designed as landing pages, so that's not really surprising. I can solve that by putting links on the main page for London, Leeds, Manchester, Cardiff, Edinburgh The sub links on those should spread to the other pages?
Other possible reason is duplicate content. Well I was already going to reduce the duplicate central text content, so let see if that helps.
Its nearly always a bad idea to reduce the amount of text on a page as the SE love to read text.
Just write some more that is unique to your pages.
Alvin
That's not so easy as there 16000 pages all generated from a database of information, the images (maps) titles, description, links are all database driven. The only thing I could possibly do, is splatter the place name through text possible with a bit of rejigging.
