Default Domain names as keywords...

For all the SE experts out there...

Is there much value in buying the domain names for my keywords and re-directing to my site?

E.g. I was selling Laptops and purchased www.delllaptops.com...presuming my site is optimised with that key word too.

Would this have a good effect?

Thanks

From what I understand, registering lots of related domains and forwarding them isn't really going to help you hugely for SEO for the original site.

Extra domains are more of value if you are going to produce unique content on each domain and let it build some value of its own. You could then link from each to your original site (but try to put the subsites on different hosting to the main site otherwise it all looks a bit too obvious).

If you do 'collect' domain names like I know many people do, and dont want to do much with them for the moment, then at least make sure they forward to your active website using a 301 redirect, not your domain providers url forwarding.

Eh ?

This is something I've never heard of....

I just bought domain names and use the re-direct to the sites I'm affiliated with.

What's the 301 option and how does it benefit please.

Little point in buying and redirecting them but lots of value in registering them and setting up contextual mini-sites.

These *may* rank higher than the sub-pages of your main site and would at least give some contextual link juice to pass up to your main site

Cheers

Jon
