Just wondering if anyone has used Silver Stripe to build a website or has knowledge about it, specifically with regard to any limitations it has SEO wise?
I have it set up but not really tested it yet.
The structure all seems fine, but it can be very slow to load at times.
Your post has reminded me to go and set up more tests.
I read a post on the silverstripe forums about its SEO capabilities which was pretty vague. Something along the lines of it's not the CMS that matters, it's the content that you put in it that counts for SEO purposes. They're right but assuming equal content, do certain CMS allow you to produce a site that is more google friendly. Silverstripe does allow keyword urls which I guess is SEO helpful but other than that it's hard to guage.
You mentioned it can be slow to load, I presume you mean when someone goes to your website? To your knowledge is load time a key differentiator between CMS and does it become more of an issue as web traffic increases?
It does look like a pretty cool CMS though, really easy to use (or so it appears) plus there's some real nice themes available
Hi D
I saw your reply to a different thread about Joomla and a link to the joomla web video on your site. That got me thinking... if an SEO site is using Joomla it can't be too bad
At the risk of asking a stupid question, how would you recommend handling a blog with joomla? Would you use Joomla (can you do that easily?) or would you use it in combination with say wordpress? And if the latter is it easy to combine 2 systems together in this fashion.

BTW I thought your cms video was well done.
Where software is concerned I'm a big believer in horses for courses. We use Joomla as a CMS - because it's excellent IMHO - and Wordpress for our blog because it's a great blogging platform IMHO.
Is your website and blog on the same domain, I wasn't sure about this based on your blog url. The reason I ask is that I was wondering if a search engine spider would view your blog and main site as one entity, so if the blog ranked well it would help the ranking of the main site. Is it possible to go with the Joomla/Wordpress approach like you have done and have the blog as an integrated part of the main site, say redevolution/blog?

Yes our blog is on the same domain but we used a sub-domain. You could equally use /blog.
Don't know about Silver Stripe but ExpressionEngine is very flexible and fast. The URL structure is very friendly and can be completely controlled by you plus you have total freedom on the design / optimisation front.
The only word of caution here is EE doesn't have "themes" and it can take a while to get to grips with but their support forum is excellent.
Expression engine is decent enough, but it is more of a platform than a publishing CMS. Joomla with the proper SEF setup is fine. The only real issue with Joomla is it can be resource hungry on the server.
Again Wordpress is perfect setup the SEF urls, and prevent the duplicate pages and you are flying.
