I've been seeing a lot of hype about how good stompernet is for SEO so thought I'd have a look - only to come across this. Anyone have any feedback or experience?
Anyone know for certain if the revenue model behind it is really one of affiliate marketing or not (ie people making money by referring people through and getting them to fork out that $800/month)
It's the age old formula. It goes something like this....
"I've made my fortune but I'm just not happy being rich and successful, I'd sleep better at night if you let me make you rich also. The thing is, it would be silly to just give you the information so although I don't need the money I'm going to ask you for a fee."

You have to love these people
The ones I get are just as funny, "We have tons of work for you Pete, before we commission your services could we run a ton of stuff past you".
The thread you linked to refers to an earlier marketing campaign by Stompernet from last year.
They have recently launched Stompernet 2 in which they are offering a bunch of DVDs and a copy of the first issue of their new monthly magazine. The offer, according to them is "free" except for the cost of shipping, which from the US to the UK is $19.84 (about £11.20 at current rates). However, if you do not cancel before the next magazine is issued (which you have to do by phoning a US number) you will then pay $39.95 per month (or until you do cancel).
There seem to be lots of mixed reviews about it. Some say it is worth the punt especially as they report it comes from SEO gurus, others think it is a scam.
A more up to date thread on Digital Point can be seen here.
Myabe not a scam in the real sense of the word, but a clever way to catch you out with the continued payment subscription, having to give notice to cancel (some want a months notice so you end up paying another month on top).
