Fairly neutral I would have thought - all it's showing is a list of links.

I think it depends on what kind of script you are about to use.
But for me it's better not to use it since spidy is not crawling it.
Script size is not an issue for SEO, but it is for accessibility.
Less crucial 'further in' to the site, as here, but it is something to consider.
By accessibility, I mean, certain groups in society cant see it!

Thanks all. So the main thrust of everyones opinion is that it won't either harm nor promote ie nuetral
In the context of what you are trying to provide, I would say neutral ..but good for your customers, so the right thing to do.
The Google mantra is..build content for your customers, not for google...

Dupe content is generally misunderstood. This might help.

If the script is generating new pages, then that is good, BUT, ideally it should be a service rather than just duplicating a single RSS feed. .
E.G. I have a site, the site provides information that is both choronlogically relevant, and geo specific, so we use RSS feeds to deliver information links that are relevant to the user and compliment the page content. (apologies for being vague here, but the site is a real moneyspinner and has attracted great interest from investors, and the last thing I would want to do is give the business model away on a webmaster forum)
But another example could be my rugby site. I use RSS feeds on the news page to encourage debate. The feeds come from many sources, including the BBC, Sky sports, planet rugby, scrum.com etc. AND, while some people (who are dreadfully misinformed as per the poster a few posts up) might shout 'This is duplicate content', they couldn't be FARTHER from the truth. My news page is unique content, it is a very good resource, as it pulls RSS feeds from various sources around the globe, and also from my forum posts.
So my advice is to try and build a good resource using RSS feeds, and you won't go far wrong![]()
