I'll do the best i can with the limited knowledge i have.
I read many posts regarding SEO posted by many members, mainly Alvin and Ray when we were all on the other place
Its different when putting my new found learning into practice, never just as simple, altho i enjoy the challenge.
A new site can jump around in the SERP's, also - don't panic, it may well pop back in a few days. In the meantime try to get a few decent links
There are some things need doing on-site. I would have a page for each set of KW's you are targeting, with a unique title and meta description using those words for each said page.
Your should also move the title tag up to the top of the < head> tag, followed by the meta description.
You should aslo use a < H1> tag at the top of each page - again including the keywords.
I don't think your meta keywords tag is doing you any favours - I'd remove it completely
Just an update regarding this question i posted a few days back.
by using the search term garden services scottish borders using yahoo, im number 1 on page 1.
using the same words in google, i still cant find anything as far as page 12 even tho i was page one for a while, but granted new sites rank high for a while until they drop back.
even typing in google insideout garden service scottish borders it doesnt come up
I've just signed into my google account and i have 7 urls indexed from submitting my sitemap.xml, also google bot last crawled my site on 22nd march 08.
Any more thoughts or is it a case of site back for a while as see what happens ?
I would do what the experts have mentioned, link building could be a big one once the on site stuff has been sorted.
I am in the same boat as yourself, I rank really well for Yahoo on a lot of products and terms, yet really crap for google. Not a great situation, but work away and you will achieve something.

I think that is the problem for us newbies...you sit at your computer till stupid o'clock tweaking here and there and you dont see any initial results...so you just dont know if your doing anything right

1) Dont make desicions or start worrying about your ranks the day it changes. Or the next, or the one after that. Google sometimes bounces around when changing/testing the way they rank sites in your niche/overall. Get to know how often Google is visiting your site. You can check this in your hosting account, awstats is the program, look for 'robot activity'. If Google is hitting your site once a month, it will take atleast that long to see true rank changes. It also means you should be link building, to get the Google bot coming back more regularly.
2) Get some cheap domains and a cheap hosting account, put up some very basic sites (no need even for a template, plain html files are fine) and 'play' with different techniques you read about. See exactly how each change affects these sites, and the things that work do to your main site. This may seem like alot of work, but will get rid of a large chunk of unknpowns you currently have.
SEO can be very niche-specific, having real world, real time info on what google is doing is a massive confidence boost, and will help your SEO no end.
