I wouldnt use DMOZ, but its the benefits of the strength the website would gain.

I have been waiting for 6 months now, by the sounds of things I will be waiting another 6 months. Why doesnt someone from from A1 sign up as a dmoz volunteer. Maybe for a UK business category ????

I'd rather watch paint dry than sit approving thousands of applications for a directory

It mentions Netscape. I was under the impression they were no more.
Not wanting to tempt fate I added both of my sites

    Default DMoz

Afraid this one is out of our hands, google considers this to be one of the most important directories to be in. In SEO terms it has a page rank of 9.

but there are other directories with similar importance:

    Here are some of them:

It certainly is not a miss in any terms.

Although I grant you getting a listing is hard. Especially in highly popular sections, or sections that do not have a editor.

And becoming an editor is not plain sailing either.

Whether it is worth it as people don't seem to use it to search for resources, is immaterial until the day other search engines including Google stop using it, then it is worth its weight in Gold.

If you can't get a listing in your niche, try geo specific, then ask for the transfer. Or just be happy with the geo specific listing.

Or as suggested here, apply to become an editor, but you will need loads of spare time and the patience of a angel.

Is anyone actually an editor for DMOZ? ive heard some stories about competition blocking other sites simply because someone is an editor, doesnt sound the most credible nor up to date directory - but such is the nature of directories i guess

    Default DMOZ listed yes

    DMOZ listed YES.

We have been perservering with Dmoz over the last fews months and finally we have been listed whether it will be a benefit only time will tell.

Strange thing though our description is completely different to that which we inputted each time obviously the editor placed their own version which is absolutely fine so it just goes to show that it can depend on what the editor dealing with your submission wants to show in the end.

how much of a benefit is DMOZ afterall?

DMOZ isn't the powerhouse it once was with regards search engine opimisation but i's still well worth the effort. If you're waiting a long time to get listed, it's probably due to lack of editors for the category - you can always apply to be an editor.

For the guy that mentioned Wikipedia, although it can help generate real human traffic, Google doesn't follow the links (they are all marked as nofollow).
