For the guy that mentioned Wikipedia, although it can help generate real human traffic, Google doesn't follow the links (they are all marked as nofollow).

I tried becoming an editor and didn't hear anything back from dmoz, as anyone here managed this?

I applied to be an editor just so I could get our site listed - I even put this on my application.

    I didn't get the job.

...but our site was listed within 2 weeks of me applying

    Coincidence?

    I'm a DMOZ editor

As a tip, apply for a very small category (your location -> your industry) to begin with to gain a bit of trust. Don't simply join to get your site listed, join to improve the directory.

Unfortunately they are always short on editors and can take one hell of a long time to get your site in.

My thinking is a DMOZ listing is not that important now that Google devalued them. They might help you with your yahoo rankings though.

We are listed in the DMOZ directory but when we search on the site to check our site is not found.

    anyone else experienced this situation.

My webhost highly recommended it as part of their SEO package but goodness...this is not reassuring at all considering I recently submitted my url to DMOZ. Alot can happen in 12 months!

I have tried submitting and also becoming an editor of different parts of the directory and have either hear nothing, or been rejected for no really good reason. I will try again maybe one more time, but then I will leave it, it is frustrating because of the fact it is syndicated in many other directories
