    Default Dmoz?

    Hi All

I have been doimng some research, under my keywords the top 10 listings in Google seem to be in DMOZ. Is there any secret to get into the open diretory. I have read some posts in the blog of dmoz and does not seem to be updated that often?

Is anyone here in the DMOZ listings and is it really worth it?

It is well worth being in DMOZ .

Unfortunately they are always short on editors and can take one hell of a long time to get your site in.

It took over a year for us to get in. I checked recently and our listing (for some weird reason) has been swapped to our business to business website - which we have no desire to put in the directory. It still has the old description which says "sells to home users" - which is incorrect.

I've sent a message for it to be amended, I expect that will be sorted sometime in the next few years.

Many people are not aware that you can have 2 listings in Dmoz

    1. Site related
    2. Geographically related

As long as your site is set out to follow their standards and you submit the application correctly the process is straight forward

I am listed in DMOZ and this has taken well over 12 months. The reason it takes so long is because it is human edited so if there isnt an editor for your particular keyword you will have to wait and wait and wait or you could get lucky and have a keyword that has plenty of editors.

DMOZ is not the only directory out there. Submit to all the directories you can and do not worry if DMOZ does not include your website. I believe having your website listed in the major search engines is much more important than a link back from DMOZ. It would be nice to find your website in the DMOZ directory, but you are relying on the integrity of the volunteer editors and reviewers which have their own opinions as to what makes up a quality website. If your website meets the criteria of DMOZ and you do in fact get an editor that agrees with these standards then you will be lucky enough to have your website included.

Anyway,Wikipedia has replaced DMOZ as a source of reference information - the outbound links on the encyclopedia's pages serve as a directory of sorts, and while DMOZ link growth slows, Wikipedia's is red-hot.

It has taken me 12 months to get into DMOZ. I was only listed a few days ago so have no idea how benifical it will be yet.

I think if you have a decent site which the editors think will benefit the directory and you can be patient you will eventually get listed
