I have asked them and I'm waiting to hear back but they can sometimes take up to 24 hours to answer a support ticket.

reading.
Do not mess with .htaccess files unless you know what you are doing,
and ideally check with your host first if you intend using one.

i didn't ignore you, I just considered what you said very carefully and then went ahead and experimented anyway

and then when it didn't work i deleted it.

I will most probably change hosts anyway to Carls as I have a couple of other domains with him.

I saw it was IIS elsewhere which is why I posted that link as it gives various options depending on the hosting and file types.

I do agree that if you are unsure of the setup at that level don't touch.
