Default Up from number 6 to no 3 on google. Is it hits on website or rearrangement of site?

Hi Guys, (and Gals). I recently did a revamp of my website, (youll be pleased to know), but I didnt alter any text content, just the background, header etc. I spent a long time on it and kept clicking on my site to see it published OK. But since then I found my site has gone from 6 -8 up to no3. I am wondering if it the increase in hits thast has caused this ,or the rearrangement of the site. I would value your views .Thanks

I would say that in the changes yo have made, they have been of benefit to your site which has caused Google to rank you better. When did you make the changes? I find it normally takes anywhere between 5-10 days to see the results of any changes I make. Also watch out that it might be a temporary spike and it might drop again, but fingers crossed it won't. Well done though, it has good search volume there! Did you get a lot of enquiries from your previous Google position?

No Not many enquiries, but it is only when I had changed the appearance that I looked back and thought how rubbish the old site was. but I must have hit my site 2-300 times when changing it so I wondered if that improved my ranking. My next aim is to improve my images

You want a "page 3" model lying on a newly polished table.

Seriously the site does look a lot better.

If you mean by clicking on your own website to view it, then that won't affecting your rankings.

    Hi restorian

Bit of a hit and miss to give a definitive yes or no on this one after such a short space of time.

Long term soaking would be better, so bench mark where you are at now and after looking at the competitiveness of this phrase in google it is pretty low (less then 600k hits when I viewed and only 49 searches per day for this exact phrase), so I would mark it and review again after 4-6 weeks.

Yes, you can see rapid changes in days, but they can change as quick as they appeared so let it lie for a minimum period.

As for did the changes help...maybe, it all depends on what changes were actioned. Was it design coding error clean up, meta work, did you add new external anchor links etc....

And as Indizine states, your hits will not affect the changes in the SERPS.

    hth and good luck

So as not to confuse 'hits' and 'hits' the OP's 'hits' are the number of times he is clicking on his search engine links, and not the same as the 'hits' which you will see recorded in your hosting stats.

    Sorry

Let me extend. The 'Hits' I was referring to was the results in Google when you search for the afore mentioned phrase...

So, in essence, there were 546,000 hits (results) in google for this phrase.
