If Ben or his associates do not have a portfolio to show then imo it's ok. It would be good for Ben to explain that point.
It would be better if the points were addressed and accept the price as it is without having to see a portfolio (we all have to start somewhere).
Your design process
It is good to get your client involved in the design process. They want to know how you came up with the creative thinking. Does the image reflect the company's standards, meaning and ethos. How were the elements derived? How will the client know that your creation is right for them? Is the work original (very important and must be backed up should you get involved in a copyright dispute later on).

Will the client be able to use the logo on all marketing materials, stationery, website, signage (vector based artwork) etc...pretty useless if not.
Copyrights
Who owns the copyrights to the design at the end?
Hope this helps Ben and for anyone that is considering his offer.
An hour of my time putting a brief together, giving feedback etc takes more than an hour from beginning to end, and as most people in buisness, we are worth more than £10 an hour, so that £10 logo will actually cost more than a tenner and if if you take a punt and its not a pro doing the job, that time could extend much further, costing say £50 of the buyers time, thus costing way more than a tenner.
I think you have gone off on a tangent there LOL
I was not referring to the brief process, as an experienced developer of more than 10 years, I am fully aware of that!
However, what I was pointing out that if something costs a tenner, why would you spend time researching??
And more to the point, why would you consider offering this untested service to a client? Not the way I would go forward unless the sites I sold were retailing at bedroom designer rates.
I dont belive I did moonlighter, I think I raised a valid point about paying cheap prices.
However, the only reason I want the answers to my questions to the OP, is so if I meet anyone needing a logo with a zeroish budget to spend, I can point them to Ben if I feel they will still receive something that will meet their needs.
They could be really great; theres a guy in the US that does them for something like $5 and I saw a few (over onn the other forum) and they looked ok for say start ups who cant afford much but need somehting to get them going. However, even for a miserley tenner, they have to be right none the less.

That will instill confidence to the members who may take you up on the offer.
Files will be sent in any required format's and as many times as you like, will always keep a hard copy with me.
Copyright would be transferred instantly to the buyer, as soon as I receive payment for the services provided.
My design process would be to spend a while thinking about what the client wants his/her logo to include, also able to chat regularly to them if needs be. I would then move onto getting some drawings done, then eventualy creating it in Photoshop. Whole turnaround should be a few days, but quicker deadlines can be achieved if neccesary.

Since it's only £10 a pop I'd recommend offering out a few logos for free or maybe even creating some logos for made-up companies. Make up a business name, decide on what it offers and decide on the brand/business image and market audience. To make it a fairer exercise you and your friend could generate business briefs then swap them around and work on logos for each others ideas.
The portfolio should be there to showcase your skill and to show the design elements you have taken into account in relation to the business brief - these don't have to be logos for paid customers. Just 2 or 3 examples of your work will show potential clients exactly what you can do for them and this is all they will need.
