I popped into a forum I visit some time and found this message on there today:
The story so far......
The forum was backed up on Sunday 16th prior to installing the new software. PhPBB 3 was installed and the old data sucessfully migrated over.
On Tuesday 18th the server again became bogged down with CPU requests. In an attempt to lighten the load I pruned some of the forums. The forum then began to display error messages. Every attempt to repair the database failed.
I then spent two hours trying to restore the database - each restore attempt (numerous) failed with various syntax errors.
I installed PhPBB3 and displayed a message similar to this.
I woke up at 0400hrs and tried to restore the database to PhPBB3 - failed
I have tried 3 more times to restore the database to PhPBB2 - all have failed.
It is now apparent that the "old forum" was very ill - my initial thoughts were that it was corrupted. The fact that it crashed the new software and fails to restore indicates to me that the data was compromised.
It is now 0545 hrs and I can't think straight. I need to get some sleep
Later today I will set up this forum & we will have to start from scratch.
I will then seek advice and try to restore the back up to use as an archive so that we don't lose all the very precious posts that were there.
I apologise for the current position but assure you that I will do all I can to resume normal service as soon as possible.

PS: If you are able to assist with either the 'new forum' or sorting the old, please feel free to email!
He would be better to start with a fresh database - import his saved phpbb2 database and then try again. It's rare that it will become corrupt for no reason.
