Doesn't this make a good case for Professional juries? I'm not say that a jury system has to be made up of professionals, mearly that there needs to a system that allows for specilist and non-bias to be better qualifed to make the judgements that ensures justice. The victim, who stood up and got a smacking, (thats what I saw) has been let down, standing up regardless of what Steve G thought was going to happen, wasn't an assult.
A jury made up of non-regionalised, professionally trained and knowledgable in various subjects, will ensure fair play. Take the Maxwell trial, the complex nature of the case would be over the heads of most ordinary people (and that's what a jury is made up from) without financial qualifications. A professional jury would be able to garnish the facts as presented and with their experience will offer a credible verdict based on the evidence and the story that goes with it. I am not saying that its fail proof, but mearly that there is a case for taking the important decisions based on judgement rather than the skills of a Barrister to exploit the unqualified nature of a random public collective.
