Digital SLR recommendations wanted

My iPod Photo 40GB has finally packed up after 4 years, so I have replaced it with an iPod Classic.

But, in a bizarre twist, the iPod Camera Connector to upload the images from my digital camera to the iPod for backup when I travel is not a supported accessory.

I am left with 2 options;
1 Buy more Memory for my 6 year old Digital Camera (approx £30)
2 Buy a new Digital SLR that I have had my eye on for the past 12 months (£300+)

I could always wait until the iPod Camera Connector is supported in a future firmware update but there is no defined timeline for this.

I am leaning towards option 2 and wouldl like to canvas opinion on which DSLR to go for.

Any feedback you have would be appreciated.

I believe the Canon 300d or its newer sibling get great reveiws

Canon every time for me - although Nikon is a close second. I'm a semi-pro photographer and would not touch anything other than these two brands

Canon for me, although the down sides are the inbuilt flash and 18-55MM lens are not up to much. Also fork out for IS models when buying zoom lenses it will cost more but it is worth it.

Managed to get my new camera (a Canon 400D) for £304 after rebate.

Battery charged and the first shot taken was great - no hassle at all.

The 450D has just been released and is several hundred £ more expensive for not a lot of extra functionality.

Thanks to all who commented and gave their suggestions both online and offline.

I have a cannon and a fuji 5800 with 10 times zoom great little camera for £129 and I get points care of Tesco,who bleeding else is there.

had the cannon for years only 2 meg whatsits but great pictures ,apparently its all about the lens not the amount of pixels.and cannon's are the best.
