    Default BT and LARGE phone bills

    I'm getting so fed up with my BT phone bills since there are getting extremely expensive.

    I do need to contact our sitters on their mobiles and have family in the States, so can anyone recommend another, maybe more cheaper service?

    can't you geta mobile with loads of minutes and cheap calls abroad? There are some cracking business mobile deals to be had, once again, all depends what your budget is.

    BT (otherwise known by my father as B*****d Thieves) really are terrible. One option could be to use skype? skype to skype calls are free and other calls (including to other countries) are ridiculously cheap. You can also call to and from landlines to skype very cheaply.

    Skype is not cheap to call abroad so I am told, not sure how correct that info is though.

    Hi PetNanny, you might want to try Orange Broadband, I have the max package of £24 per month all inclusive, no payments to BT, and I get free calls from the livebox to any uk landlines any time of the day/night, free calls to orange mobiles anytime of the day/night and free calls to 30 countries any time of the day/night... The US is included in the free calls list of countries. Also it may be worth trying orange mobiles as they also give free calls to landlines and a lot of cross network minutes.

    Actually, BT ain't so bad on call charges and packages these days - they tend to rip you off on stuff like line rentals and broadband so it's worth giving them a call to check whether there's a package they can get you onto that suits you better.

    Uk mobile calls are expensive no matter who you use and there's no really clever way of calling them. Assuming that you want to make a lot of short duration calls (rather than long duration chats), find a provider that charges per second with no call set-up fee.

    International calls to family are best done using VoIP - in which case they're free. But really, ordinary landline calls to the USA are normally only a few pence per minute (we charge 1.5p pm) so again it's a matter of choosing your provider and package.

    I would go for the mobile option for all outgoing calls. For example - I pay £20 per month on a two year contract whivh gives me a Blackberry plus upto 1000 minutes of calls to all mobiles and landlines (except 0845 etc). I no longer use a landline at all!

    However, I am not sure of the cost of phoning abroad as I don't!

    Hi Nina;

    I might be worthwhile to give BT a call, when I was ringing round doing my cost-cutting exercises they told me that for a monthly fee(£12/£20 - can't remember) you get vertually no phone chares. Includes 01, 02, 03, 07 and 08 numbers
