Unfortunately, much as i'd love to lay the blame there, there's more to it than Mr Brown. (he's not put fuel tax up this week as far as i know). It's a worldwide issue, and refinery space seems to be the key to it.
However, seeing as the Treasury are getting in bumper amounts of duty from the refinery & production stages, there is definiately some scope there to cut the tax on the pumps.

Only if he wants to, of course.......
Yep i do agree with you Boxby re worldwide issue, but i still think the government could step in and attempt or at least be seen to attempt and slow down the rising prices.
in 1997 when new labour came into power gordons fav word was prudence and stated how he can take this country forward etc etc. He's took it forward and pushed it off a cliff. Seriously tho, i often wonder what hes playing at, then the 10p tax abolishment.....sorry but the song still plays...gordon is a moron.
Edit
The media doesnt help the country - but then there is no news like bad news

I'll tell you what GB is going to do about it - SFA. Its out of his depth. He will tell spin and pray he is correct. But is that not what politicians do ? ( allegedly )
Its very sad the state of the economy, but as usual the motorist gets full brunt.

But this isn't a motorist issue - it's the same underlying reasons that are putting your grocery bill up £10 per week, and that have heating oil (for those of us poor people where there is no mains gas) up to over 60p a litre (from 30p a litre three years ago!).
We live on an Island folks. Everything goes by road one way or another.
And the sooner folk realise that, the sooner something will be done. I return to my mantra;
FUEL PRICES AFFECT EVERYTHING NOT JUST THE PRICE OF FILLING YOUR PETROL TANK.
Have to say at the risk of being shot to pieces. There is a good side to these price rises, obviously not for essential users.
But don't you think it will help to get rid of the proliferation of gas guzzeling monsters we see on our roads now.
WE only have a limited supply of fuel and having vehicles that are burning twice as much as needed to do a certain distance is insane. At one end of the spectrum we have the Polo diesel 70+mpg to many 4x4's and other vehicles doing 12mpg.?
and as No vehicle may exceed 70 mph in the uk there is no reason on earth to have these anti-social types on our roads.
Rant over ( one blocked my view when reversing in Sainsbury's car park.result one scraped wing )

But the people who have got the gas guzzlers are likely to have the money and are probably being fuelled by company fuel cards anyway...!!!

Good point.
And the folk that live anywhere other than the big cities, who are therefore much more likely to be earning minimum wage, rely on their cars to get to work becuase there simply is no viable alternative public transport. Where I used to live, a trip to the town 12 miles away took 1hr 20minutes!
