AA insurance is sold by the AA ,but on trying to claim on there insurance one of our members was told by the AA they had nothing to do with the insurance and were just brokers.
Now I believe this is bordering on deception as the AA is a very respected motoring body, and many people would insure with them based on the trust that people feel for the AA,only to find that the company that does the actual insurance uses some rather unusual methods in determining claims.
BTW confused.com is also misleading. I rang for quotes last year for my son's car and when I followed up to buy the insurance in at a good price at about no. 2 or 3 on the results page, was promptly told that price was only a rough guide (despite me entering all the usual info in the form) and it was in fact about £200 more than the price that had been 'shopped around for' by their search engine.
On questioning this, the insurance company said how the site worked was nothing to do with them!

Charming.
I have used Esure for many years and there online quotes are as per the can.
well this isnt a business topic really, as its private car insurance we are discussing here (as opposed to group company insurance which would therefore be relevant to business).
I have used AA and am with them now, but havent experienced a write off. We had a write off last year with Norwhich Union and on my sons car which I paid £2600 for, they gave us £2300, so not bad after 9 months I thought.
On the flip side, I had to use the AA for roadside assistance not so long ago. Dougie (note we were on first name terms!) not only got the car going again quickly but then offered to follow me for the next 50 miles to see if the problem came back.
Luckily he was as the car broke down again so he had to tow me the rest of the way.
Top bloke and very friendly so the public face of the AA sounds a lot better than their insurance
well AA breakdown is a separate side, as it would appear, to the insurance side of things. Alll my insurance docs are branded AA and when I had an accident with them once before, it was all dealt with direct with the AA, so not sure how it is theese days.
My MX5 was insured by AA but the actual claims were dealt with by Allianz Cornhill and their valuation company ETWB. To quote my AA letter in response to the chaos of my claim 'we have no direct handling of claims'. AA have been very unhelpful with th whole thing and no the claim is finally settled, no ones seems to be able to tell me how many years no claims I've lost (cos they weren't protected).
My Peugeot is insured through AA but any claims would be handled by Privilege
I've never had any problems with AA breakdown- in fact they've been really good. However on priniciple of how they treated me with insurance, I will be going elsewhere in future
