Glasgows always been a hot spot for knife crime, about 10 times the UK average i think. The police have recently introduced a new approach where they take the victims out of the system; i.e they spend their prevention budget on working with potential victims building self confidence etc. The logic being their taking away the prey for the bullies. It appears to have had a very dramatic, positive effect!!!

Call me an old cynic, but letting the little bleeders have the chance to see there victims ,would seem like a perfect chance for them to photograph them on there mobiles.

Then post there video's on youtube or share with there mates.e.t.c.

I wonder if every generatation as they got older looked back at the youngsters with totall disbelief.?

This story has made my blood boil over the weekend

Are the goverment completely devoid of any common sense

What Alvin has posted above is spot on coupled with the fact if I were a victim Would I wish to see a little &^%^$ that has commited this type of crime and what would stop me from &%$^$ the little ^%$^%^^ myself!

There is NO NEED for ANYBODY to carry a knife.....those that do SHOULD be made well aware that if caught they WILL be jailed....NO QUESTIONS

We have enough unused ex Military camps dotted around the country to house 000's of these little %$££%$4....I personally would volunteer to patrol the areas

Bring back National service....that will give the kids something to do....also about time parents starting taking responsability for their kids.....something I am really hot on with our daughter and will continue to be as she grows

Where is the respect for officials such a the police nowadays....it was always drummed into me to be respectfull to these type of people

RANT OVER....going for coffee to calm down

Pete - you are right to rant! this is the point as which I finally admit to myself the government is full of totally clueless people. The pathetic list of measures announced will not work, just like hardly any of their policies work. Simply because, whatever qualifications they have, they have NO commen sense.

Re-introduce the concept of punishment. Big, scary, punitive punishment. If you commit a violent crime, your life will be big time messed up by a big punishment!!

All the modern approaches to a softer method, must surely now be admitted to have failed.

That was really terrible:sad1: young people should not be handling a
deadly weapon such as knife. To think that the guy died in a stab
and that was really hard to his family to accept it.. and jailing the
    suspect is not enough

Bring back the death penalty, not worth wasting tax payers money locking them up.

I mean when you look at this..
    http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/new...cle4360315.ece

Where two Police offers are beaten up by a gang of 30 for asking a girl to pick up some litter she had thrown on the ground, there has to be some stronger penalties.

A year or two ago, I spoke to an 18 year old lad who was just finishing his shift at the Co-op (not near me thankfully), he was looking absolutely petrified. He told me how the night before a gang of ten/eleven year olds had attacked him and thrown broken glass bottles at him...something is seriously going wrong with kids today ad I doubt it is any coincidence that this coincides with the banning of corporal punishment.

Alistair's idea is to take the lot, the criminals, druggies, benefits cheats etc, Stick them on the Ailsa Craig, and if they manage to Swim home then they've earnt their freedom & can stay!!

But think of the jobs it would create. Construction of prisons (the floating, mid-North Sea type), prison staff, catering....

If you introduce a death sentence for carrying then the perpetrator is just going to kill their victim anyway as the sentence for killing would be the same.
