Having a nightmare

I have never used a Letting Agent before so all this tenancy agreement signing is a mystery for me.

We have received our copy of the agreement for the flat in Gloucester and it states that we (both me and Martin) have to be there on the 2nd August to sign the agreement in there office and give them loads of money. I just called them and said that I was going to be there on the 2nd (leaving norfolk about 5am) and I can sign for the keys etc however Martin couldn't be as he needs to be in Norfolk to load up all our stuff in the van and get the carpets fitted for the house to be rented out.

Martin is in Gloucester today and I asked if he could pop in and sign the agreement today and then I would sign on the 2nd. They said NO, but they can move the tenancy start date to a more suitable time. I tried to explain that we are both working till the 1st August and Martin starts his new job on the 4th and that as we were 200 miles away it wasn't easy at all.

Am I being stupid, or are they. I'm about to give up :sad1:

Could anyone else do Martins jobs at your old house

I would give these guys a call and ask their advise on whether the Agent is being unreasonable....

Might even be able to get them to contact the agent on your behalf to resolve the matter.

I'm sending Martin down to the letting agents today, he can get his famous chef temper out and use it on them

I don't see how they can be soo unreasonable on this.

Sounds like they are being a bit unreasonable - I've not known it to be a problem before as it can be signed and left undated (until the date you sign it).

Lettings agents are a waste of time and money, I've yet to use one that was worth the bother. In your place I'd rather pay one of your neighbours to do whats necessary.

All sorted, Martin has signed his bit of paper.

The boy on the end of the phone kept telling Martin that he had to follow procedures, and then Martin explained that procedures where fine but they either let him sign it now or he would take his business elsewhere.

They soon let him sign and when he got there the bloke on the end of the phone had hid
