I for one, am really glad that this programme is being aired. Its long overdue.
I deal with pedigree dogs every day of my life, and its awful to see their inherent faults.
One dog in particular is the King Charles Spaniel. It is a real bonus if you have one of these dogs without blocked anal glands every month, heart murmurs, enlarged hearts and ear problems. Then you have the GSD's, Labs and Retrievers who are known for hip problems. The Bassett Hound with all manner of health defects and so on.
All the while Crufts continue to set the breed standard, so the breeders will go on producing mutants.
I was particularly appalled at this years Crufts when a GSD was brought over from Germany. His back was angulated so much he actually looked deformed and yet the crowd went mad clapping and cheering
I guess I am being slightly hypocritical here, since I am always extolling the virtues of rescuing a dog or cat, and yet I brought a puppy from a breeder after being on the waiting list at Battersea for only 4 months. As you all know, we purchased a GSD puppy in March and Luika's back legs have never been right, despite people saying that he should grow out of it At just over 5 months old, I am seriously worried, since it looks like his back feet are on the wrong legs.

I didn't see the program but I understand what you are all saying.
pretty animals are the ones that nature made them that way, not man.
polar bears and penguins, dolphins and dogs, lions and birds. Only the ones that arent bred to look different.
Cruelty is making something or someone suffer and I say stop breeding animals when you know they will spend their lives suffering. breed them to give them opportunities with caring owners no matter what they look like.
I have a mongrel, her mother was a lab, her dad, well lets say he didn't hang around long enough to pay maintenance but I love her and she is pretty gorgeous in my eyes.
but now I wonder will we ever stop animal cruelty, it is done in the aid of science, in the aid of beauty, in the aid of vanity and unless we rid ourselves of stupid vain people we will never win.
