Little bit of fun: Design a new olympics 2012 logo
Anyone seen the 2012 london logo?
Its pretty poor, so I decided to start a little competition here on A1BF for graphic / web designers / people who use photoshop / illustrator. Knock a new logo up and lets see whos the best. I've done 3, but the one below is my favorite.
I love that Ben, so much better than what they have

Well, why not send as many Christmas ecards as you like for only £5.99, save a fortune, put your company name on the message and be green at the same time
I'll refer back to my earlier post on an earlier 2012 logo thread, about design remits.

Such a design brief would be very detailed and strict, not just in the new London brand, but also in what could be done with the existing Olympic rings brand (possibly to the extent of saying that the rings cannot be the major part of the design). The design remit would also have requirements for graphic imagery to be the main part of the logo, not English words or numbers as the main part, in order to have world-wide multi-lingual international appeal.
Campaigns were launched in newspapers to see who could do better, and quite a few of the alternative designs had elements that a lot of people liked, but a lot of the designs wouldn't have met the requirements of the London Olympics design remit. For example, logos which had a play on the London Underground imagery, or the London Eye imagery. These types of logos would simply not be allowed and would have been ruled out in the design brief. There would have been trademarking issues, but the main reason is money, money from brand licensing. You cannot sell licensing for your London Olympic brand and make money out of it, if you have London Underground branding in there too, since you would also be sub-licensing the London Underground brand and having to pay them too.
So if you are running a 'who can do a better 2012 logo' competition, I suggest you have some kind of design remit, preferably one that is similar to the actual 2012 remit. A prime example of what would be in such a remit would be the ability of the logo brand to render well in less colours for printed material and merchandising, i.e. to print in 1 colour.

Just trying to up the ante a bit, after all this is a business forum with a competition aimed at graphics professionals, it isn't a Sun reader competition.
I just thought if professionals here were going to the effort, it would be more challenging, more fun, and more meaningful if we did it on more of a level playing field, to a similar remit, to what the original designers had to design for. Only then could we really compare whether our designs are better than the original.
But if it's just a quick bit of non-serious fun you want, here's something 'knocked up' using this forum's post editor...
