I have just brought something on ebay which quite clearly is a fake (and a bad one at that), and just had this verified by an original retailer.
Since I rarely buy from ebay I have no idea of the complaints procedure. Should I tell the seller that I want my money back since the item is not genuine?
I have alerted ebay and paypal and I am awaiting their reply.
Contact the seller, inform them as such and request a refund within 24 hours.
If this doesn't happen then lodge a paypal complaint & an ebay complaint.
They'll sort it all out in your favour. Just check that there is nothing in the original listing that may mean the seller has drawn attention to the fact that it may not be an original (e.g. do they use "style", or "like", in the descriptions etc).
Ages ago I bought macromedia mx studio for £25 after the only listing I could find insisted it was the genuine article lol! Now then, knowing I was well covered on this I duly paid and received....a fake copy!
I asked seller for a refund and notified ebay, and the seller did refund me. But, I also emailed macromedia inc and next day ebay had wiped the entire macromedia 'fake' sales from its listings. mac inc asked me to post them the disk but as they werent offering to pay the postage I didnt reply to that. I chucked the disk sometime after. I woudlnt mind but one of the keycodes was missing! Cheeky buggers!!

Yes, it was a pair of Timberland boots, and as soon as I opened the box I could see they were fake. The stitching is awful, the smell makes you feel quite sick, the logo is all wrong, in fact its a really BAD fake.
When I took the boots into a Timberland retailer today, they all laughed!
I have now contacted the seller, and am awaiting his reply
eBay takes fraud quite seriously nowadays, so just put a complaint in. Only problem is they may take a while to sort it.
What I would do is right now open an "item not as described" dispute in paypal which will hold the money straight away in paypal, you can then explain to paypal (in the dispute) that the items are fake. You will win.
Only downside to all this is you will have to pay postage costs to send the item back as paypal/ebay cannot force the seller to refund your postage costs, even though you shouldn't have to. ONE VERY IMPORTANT THING is when you do send them back use a tracking service otherwise the seller will turn around and say they didn't receive the boots back. I recommend Royal Mail Special Delivery, you can use Royal Mail Recorded Delivery (which is cheaper) but with this the tracking service is'nt great and on some occasions even though the item has been delivered it will say on the Royal Mail site it hasn't.
Royal Mail Special Delivery will cost you £8.25 if they are less than 2KG or £20.70 if they are more than 2KG. If the latter just PM me and I will get my courier to collect from your address and ship to his for £7.00 (you can then pay me by paypal or bank transfer).
Good luck sorting this out. I had a similar problem last year and the item was obviously fake. Had lots of problems with a chinese seller, supposedly based in London. Eventually found out he had more than 1 name and address registered with eBay and PayPal - and I didn't get a refund . Grates on me even now, lol
Did you pay through PayPal? Get a dispute open asap and follow the instructions.
Let us know how you get on.
Kate
PS - taking account of what Deviltronics said, I returned the item to the seller by recorded delivery and PayPal deemed it invalid as they were unable to track it sufficiently online
