Default Share Options - What happens if you leave & the Company goes public or is acquired?

Can anyone help? I know I have upto seven years to exercise the options. If the Company, goes public then I guess I can exercise the option and then sell. If the company is acquired, will my share options be transferred into a corresponding level in the new firm or ..? Can anyone help?

Thanks

Frank

Do you have the agreement? Some options have the right to be exercised at the point of sale, i've seen this in some of the buyouts I did years back.
