....Eeekk, OK we are all grown up now and have our dreaded VAT number. I know we have to legally display it on our site but do we have to legally give a break down of the VAT on receipts and shopping cart etc or is it sufficient to just say "All our prices include VAT"
Nope, you need to do more than that i'm afraid. There should be a list in one of the books that they've sent you. I'm not exactly sure what it is for e-commerce, but generally it's name, address, VAT number, VAT rate, Net, VAT, Gross.
Cheers Sandra...unless Im reading it wrong though that just states what a valid invoice should look like. I dont actually send invoices to my customers they just get a email stating what they have purchased and the amount so would I need to amend this email to include all those details?
As I am selling to the general public most do not need / want a VAT receipt ?
There are allowances for till receipts for retailers selling primarily to GP. But they must still include vat number, vat rate, and most of the information.
Your e-commerce package should have a function to send them an email - if the email isn't infact really an invoice in disguise.
